The Porsche 906 is considered by many of the worlds highest placed racing drivers to be one of the finest racing cars ever developed. Blessed with excellent performance, light weight, docile handling and exceptional reliability, the 906 immediately became a dominate competitor and carried on winning for may years.
906 #134 began its World Championship racing career with Team Holland. Driven by Dutchmen Ben Pon and Gijis van Lennep [a LeMans winner] the car finished 7th overall in the ADAC 1,000 Kilometer Race at Nurburgring. The car was sold on to a succession of amateur teams in who’s hands the car continued racing for many years.. Subsequently the car came to the United States for a complete restoration under the direction of Bruce Canepa. Upon completion, the meticulously restored car went on display at the world famous Blackhawk Museum. Since being purchased in 2004 the car has been an active competitor at the Monterey Historic Races.
Of interest was our surprising discovery that Ben Pon now operates the highly acclaimed Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley www.bernardus.com (Monterey California). In 2005 Pon and Gijis van Lennep were reunited with 906-134 at the Monterey Historic Races
